Taliban suicide bombers target Afghanistan government buildings
Suicide bombers and gunmen attacked government buildings in Kabul today, killing 17 people and wounding 46, the defence ministry said.
Two Taliban bombers blew themselves up in the prisons department as a gun battle broke out near the presidential palace and insurgents stormed the justice ministry.
Eight of the attackers died, General Mohammad Zahir Azimi, a defence ministry spokesman, said.
He said all the attackers had been wearing explosives but only three had detonated them. One was shot dead by police outside the education ministry
Five men, armed with assault rifles and grenades, attacked the justice ministry late in the morning. All were killed in a gun battle with security forces.
